fougère 〰️ deer and doe 〰️

a white woman wearing a black and brown stripe button up shirt.

sewing this wardrobe staple with distinguishing details was smooth sailing.

i used kaffe fasset %100 lightweight cotton shot stripe in the color peat. This fabric is super lightweight and i may even be able to wear it this summer (georgia is hot!!)

Deer and Doe has done a great job with this shirt pattern offering 2 looks, an oversized button up (think shacket, or made up in cotton like i have!) and a cropped, bomber jacket-style version. With a size range of 31 7/8” - 57 7/8” bust (with around 10” positive ease for the final garment), this pattern can be sized up, down, cropped and made from any woven fabric to make the shirt/shacket of your dreams (a flannel version for fall/winter? helloooo sign me up!)

Deer and Doe has provided amazing instructions that were easy to follow and allow for special finishes like french seams (what i chose for the bodice), flat felled seams and hand sewing, but would also sew up very quickly with a serger!

Some fun details included in this pattern are a 3 piece sleeve (which allowed for some fun pattern play!), a sleeve vent (rather than your traditional sleeve placket) and a fun curved hem with hem facings (offers such a clean look! hemming curved edges on shirts sucks and i like the extra weight it gives to the bottom of the shirt as well).

overall, i enjoyed this sew and am excited about Deer and Doe’s Spring collection!
